Privacy Notice

Last updated August 2026

The Northern Legacy Co. is the data controller for the personal information described here. This notice explains what we collect, why, and what you can ask us to do about it.

What we collect

Through this website we only collect what you choose to send us: your name, email address, telephone number if you provide one, the subject you select, and the content of your message.

If you go on to become a client, we will collect considerably more — details of your family, assets, health and finances — but that happens through our client engagement process, not through this website, and is covered by the separate privacy notice we give you at that point.

Why we use it

We use the details you send to reply to your enquiry, to arrange a conversation, and to send you anything you have asked for such as our family guide.

  • Our lawful basis is legitimate interests — responding to someone who has contacted us about our services.
  • We do not add enquirers to a marketing list, and we do not send newsletters unless you ask for one.
  • We do not sell, rent or share your details with third parties for their own marketing.

How long we keep it

Website enquiries that do not lead to instructions are kept for up to 24 months and then deleted. Client records are kept for the periods required by our professional and insurance obligations, which is normally at least seven years after the file closes.

Where it is stored

Enquiries submitted through this site are stored in Google Cloud Firestore and delivered to our Zoho-hosted email. Both providers apply access controls and encryption in transit and at rest.

Cookies and analytics

This website sets no advertising or tracking cookies. Nothing on the site profiles you or follows you to other websites.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you can ask us for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, ask us to correct it if it is wrong, ask us to delete it where we are not required to keep it, and object to our processing it.

To make a request, email alan@thenorthernlegacyco.com or call 0191 8330066. If you are unhappy with our response you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.

Changes to this notice

We will update this page if our practices change, and the date above will change with it.
